Tangled - A Book Review

Tangled (Tangled #1) by Emma Chase
Tangled is the first book in Emma Chase's Tangled Series

SYNOPSIS

"Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything - or anyone - derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

Tangled is not your mother’s romance novel. It is an outrageous, passionate, witty narrative about a man who knows a lot about women…just not as much as he thinks he knows. As he tells his story, Drew learns the one thing he never wanted in life, is the only thing he can’t live without."

REVIEW

Wow. Just WOW. There is an assload of extremely impressive things to say that I really don't know how to begin with this review! I'm afraid I might run out of adjectives and fail to do justice to the book. Tangled is a drop-everything-and-start-reading-it-NOW-because-it-is-now-or-never read. I'm gonna give it a goddamn 5 laughed-my-ass-off stars <3. Novels that involve complicated plot and put me to some kind of emotional turmoil are usually the ones I  reckon deserving of 5 sparkling stars til I read Tangled. Tangled is a light-read, you can finish it in just one sitting. It won't even turn you into a cry baby. Nor will it make you question your existence like in some John Green books. But what sets it apart is that it's incomparably H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S. A novel brimming with wit and humor not to mention damn smokin hot scenes.

The story is told in Drew Evans' point of view and girl bet your ass, this is the best book narrated in male POV. The mere first sentence will get the curiosity out of all of you that you wouldn't consider the thought of prolonging the agony of not finishing it forthwith. I was giggling from the first page till the very last like stir crazy oh my glob. T'was so entertaining I forgot I was just reading. I thought for a moment that I was having a preposterous one on one conversation with Drew Evans. Yeah. I too, didn't think that was likely. Blame it on  Emily Chase's writing style. Hers is friggin' genius. Emily is a genius!
This is basically an enemies-turned-lovers love story of Kate Brooks and Drew Evans but uh uh don't even conjecture this to be just like any other because it is NOT.
Drew Evans's a tough-willed, intelligent and successful multimillionaire banker and businessman. He knows what he wants in life and nothing could ever stop him from being triumphant in everything he puts himself into. He determines his successes and failures. On the other hand, this guy is utterly bodacious, sexy as hell womanizer. A guy who doesn't do relationships. With just a little winkin' and smirkin' that draw women pleading to their knees, why bother? And this egotistical douchebag is very much aware of his assets that his head has grown so big, there's plenty of room for his arrogance and conceitedness. But I tell you guys, he is obnoxious in such a cutie way! (haha! I hope I'm not being biased here)

"SEE THAT RAKISHLY HANDSOME GUY in the charcoal slacks and black shirt with the sleeves half rolled up?
The one arranging the china plates on that table?
That’s me. Drew Evans."

You won't believe how this guy's mind operates! So freaking ridiculous, nasty even. (But hell, I don't mind haha) I don't bloody know if the whole caboodle of what he's saying were applicable to every male species because he's such a bad boy but I indeed feel like I have somehow gained an insight about how a male's thought process works. Drew Evans also offers a lot of "facts" for all of you ladies out there so brace yourselves. Like really. Brace yourselves. He will drive you crazy.

“For those ladies out there who are listening, let me give you some free advice: If a guy who you just met at a club calls you baby, sweetheart, angel, or any other generic endearment? Don’t make the mistake of thinking he’s so into you, he’s already thinking up pet names.

It’s because he can’t or doesn’t care to remember your actual name. And no girl wants to be called by the wrong name when she’s on her knees giving you head in
the men’s room. So, just to be safe, I went with baby.”

Lemme just say that every word this man utters is sheer priceless and shameless.

“Every healthy man in the world wakes up with a stiffy. A fatty. Morning wood. I’m sure there’s some medical explanation for the phenomenon, but I just like to think of it as a little present from God.

A chance to begin the day with your best dick forward.”

Aside from being a pig, Drew Evans is also a family man and a huge momma's boy but that doesn't keep him from being an arse lol. His snide comments about his fam, particularly her sister are unimaginable and at the same time sweet :3.

Drew finally nosedived into the "flu" as he met Kate, a perfect match for the man of the hour himself. Kate is as strong-willed, intelligent and passionate as Drew that they found themselves sparring against each other in such a competitive world of banking. Either of them willing to back down. Kate knows her capabilities as well and what I so love about her is her ability to retain her composure and stun the most-of-the-time-asshole Drew Evans with her strong personality along with her gorgeousness and sex appeal.

See for yourself how Drew managed to recover from the flu. I'm beginning to think that the douche-ests of the opposite sex could also be the most romantic ones <3 Drew Evans is now my fave leading man.

I'd like to put more of the rollicking and witty quotes in this post because really, there are oodles in this book, but I wouldn't want to spoil you guys so I'll refrain myself. Every page of Tangled is, as a matter of fact, quotable. Yeah, that's how good the writing is.

Let's have one last quote, one of my many favorites and a scarcely ever serious one from Drew Evans:
“Women fall in love quicker than men. Easier and more often. But when guys fall? We go down harder. And when things go bad? When it's not us who ends it? We don't get to walk away.
We crawl.”

11 Facts About Me

I was thin as a rake for God knows how long. I had never been fat no matter how much I dig in food. Family and friends actually thought I was hopeless. Well, not until last year when I became so desperate to gain a pound that I discovered a program most bodybuilders use to put on weight: GOMAD which stands for Gallons of milk a day. Obviously, that sounds ridiculous and it IS ridiculous. However, I tried drinking as many glasses of milk as I can. I went for 4 glasses a day  and BOOM! the result was instant! For the first time in forever I got some FLAB!
I do not eat marshmallows and sago. #ewthing.
I say words out loud when I read and study, a habit I carried with me since 4.
I bite my nails (consciously). Not because I'm anxious or nervous. I just hate seeing long nails and nail cutters seem to be always missing in action everytime I needed one.
I'm a bibliophile and I had never in my life read harry potter, twilight, divergent, hunger games etc  Not a sci-fi fanatic here.
I've always wished for a more prominent jaw bone.

In a Pensive Mood this Holy Week

For most teens my age, this week's a fun time perfect for out of the country escapades, out of town swimming, family outings, sun kissin and summer lovin' and for the devouts,Visita Iglesia, as so palpable from pictures posted all over facebook, twitter and instagram.

Sadly for me, Holy week (or might as well, this vacation so far) is about eating then reading then sleeping then reading then eating and the cycle goes on and on. In as much as my body's longing for beach and a sun tan, I'm stucked at home bored silly most of the time. Mom's pretty strict and conservative that I'm not permitted to go out with friends more than once a week lol and I think she's in no mood to leave the house and have some splash. (Welcome to the old lady's life!) However, these few days that I've withdrawn from the society and lived in solitary existence like a hermit inside my room, (too much exaggeration eh?) gave me more than enough time to engage in deep thoughts, unwind and ponder on several stuff like how I lived my life the past year and how I am doing right now. I realized a lot of things. Things I had veritably conceived before but never did I zero in on.

Over the course of three years, I became a totally different person. A young lady very far from the happy, content, playful and confident girl I was. I don't know if you can call me a late bloomer or whatev but all these crazy drama and shit highschool girls go through seem to be taking its toll on me only now that I'm in college already.Weird isn't it? I became irritable, sensitive and impatient, complaining about essentially everything from the whole shebang of the universe down to the littlest of things. I get upset and disappointed at my school (particularly), people at school, my parents etc that I fret relentlessly.  Little did I know, I was slowly becoming the root cause of all my woes. Obviously, moaning and lamenting do not help at all. Ludicrously, I also settle for less; in my relationships, studies and in myself, living each day half-heartedly.

And I'm tired of this. I should make a move. I should take a different course of action. The moment I took psychology, I knew I'm after getting myself better every single day.And obtaining happiness I believe, is the sole purpose of life (self-realization in psychological terms.)
I'm tired of sitting in the background, complaining about all the shit that's goin on in front of me. I want to make a difference, even the slightest one. I want the people I dealt upon to remember me. I want to touch lives in my own little ways. But to do this, I know I should start fixing my crap first and with God's grace I know I'll be better.

I found this very helpful list, 50 ways to be a Woman a few days ago. It motivated me a lot. I found myself taking a little of my time off every morning to read this lineup just to empower myself and start a productive day. This 50 ways to be a woman list doesn't only provide you with the do's in acting more like a woman and being one, it also reminds you how to live a life of happiness and content, make the most out of this totality God has given us,and to respect and love yourself. Girl take a look at it, ponder on it, reflect and together let's begin from these wee steps! teehee for change and girl power!

My top 6 from the list:

❤ Cultivate yourself as an interesting person and develop a personality that is unique to yourself.

❤ Find beauty in every day. It’s there. You just have to find it and you will be glad that you did.

❤ Find your bliss. Life is too short to be unhappy and an unhappy woman is very unattractive.

❤ Form opinions. On political matters. On current events. Be able to contribute to a conversation as an informed member of society. Knowing when to exert these opinions and when to keep them to yourself is just as important.

❤ Allow yourself to be treated like lady. If more women would sit down and be ladies, more men would stand up and be men. Just because you are capable of opening your own door, in the presence of a man, you should not have to. Allow men the indulgence of being men and take pride in the privilege of being a lady.

❤ Get involved. Join societies and organizations that have a positive influence in your community. Create positive exposure for yourself.

A Happy Reflective Holy Week to everybodeh!

Tokyo Bubble Tea Milk Place and Restaurant

I regret not trying this tea house out before! This will definitely be a regular hang-out haven. From afar, who wouldn't feast their eyes on this place's bright lights, colorful ambiance and overall "cuteness". This may sound absurd but the comical atmosphere didn't woo me at first thus I haven't set foot in the restaurant until today. It's such a cutesy I thought the foods would taste funny lol. Then a friend was fussing over it that we found ourselves in the footsteps of this adorable place without batting an eye. Tokyo Bubble Tea milk is a milk tea place and a restaurant as well. They offer Japanese noshes of all kinds.

THE PLACE

Al fresco area
It has quite spacious and snug al fresco area with several fluffy couches, chairs and tables. They have the coolest and largest outside dining area I know (for a milk tea place), accommodating a fairly good number of customers. This I believe is mainly because it's small and cramped inside.

There's so much going on in their interior. The place looks child(and child-at-heart)-friendly with all the pastel colors such as green, yellow, orange and pink. They're also being creative in terms of their lightings. They used varying lighting fixtures. I cant actually describe and explain how good it looks since obviously I'm not an interior designer nor an aspiring one but I hope the pictures help. eeek

THE MENU

Holy moly. They have the most kawaii-ish menu eva! I enjoyed going through each page. Extolling their menu for being sooo helpful. I appreciate their generosity in putting a lot of pictures of the foods and drinks and a good description for each. It's really a piece of cake choosing what to order. What makes Tokyo Bubble Tea a regular lounge spot for a great deal of people (and surely for me) are the many food categories, wide selection for each food category and options provided on how you want your food served. Like seriously, their menu's packed with ALL kinds of foods and drinks: ramen, donburi, sizzlers, rice meals, bulgogi, nachos, pasta, burgers, nachos, soups, salad, takoyaki, teas, milk tea, milk shake, coffee. Name it they have it all! You even have a pick on whether you prefer your drinks hot or cold.
,
OUR NOSHES

Hot Chocolate, 95 pesos
A regular hot chocolate served with syrup if you want it sweeter.
Chocolate MilkTea (large) - 125 pesos
This milk tea's orgasmic.

Fish Cake drizzled Soy Ginger sauce, 198 pesos
look at all the juiciness really yummehhh
Omurice Classic, 195 pesos with hamburg Steak add-on, 110 pesos
Judging from the taste of the foods we ordered, I could say that Tokyo Bubble Tea Restaurant only serves the best fresh Japanese meals and snacks. The foods and the milk tea were so delish I can't even. The service was kinda slow but I couldn't blame them, they have helluva lot customers and dishes were served fresh from the kitchen. Yay!

Maybe Someday - A Book Review

"At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…" - Goodreads

~warning you guys, pinch of spoilers ahead, can't help it deym~

If you happen to read my Hopeless Review, y'all know how antsy and exhilarated I was after finishing it (together of course with Losing Hope) So far, I loved all of the Colleen Hoover books I've read and as of the moment, Hopeless is at the top of my contemporary romance faves list. I was like an apeman crazy raving about how good of a writer Hoover is  on twitter as soon as I was through with Hopeless that a friend of mine highly recommended Maybe Someday, another CoHo novel. I expected a lot (as in A LOT) from this book considering the ballyhoo, good reviews and its insanely far-fetched rating on goodreads. Sadly, it didn't live up to my expectation. I guess, that happens when you just came across a superb work of one particular author. Standards and expectations from another book of the same writer tend to go way up.
Don't get me wrong, Maybe Someday is a good read. It's actually very original and kind of unique. Colleen Hoover writes beautifully that she gets you hooked to it. Her writing and storytelling capability and creativity are exquisite and impressive. I love how she plays with words. I literally finished the book in just one sitting, ignoring all internet distractions, and that is a very rare thing to happen. There is something with how Colleen Hoover weaves words together that disabled me from putting down the book (all her books actually.)
There's nothing much to the plot, it's quite simple, monotonous and uneventful, not many twists but it was hella consuming. The story is narrated in alternating POVs of Sydney and Ridge, a good thing because you'll know and understand fully their thoughts, conflicting actions and inside battles in fighting their developing attraction and feelings towards one another. Hoover allows you to put yourself in their shoes in order to comprehend and grasp everything that's going on in their minds. The love story is definitely not forgettable as well as the characters.
You wouldn't find it in you to hate any single character in this book. Ridge was such a mystery during the first chapters, playing beautiful music in his balcony, that I was crushing on him too just like Sydney. He's loyal, righteous, good-looking, sexy and everything nice. And the fact that he's deaf is absolutely original. I cringed at the thought and doubted whether Ridge will be able to fully express himself since communication will surely be a pain in the ass. Thanks to CoHo's good writing and creative mind, she made that possible.Warren, Ridge's bestfriend is totally outrageous and at the same time touching. Behind all his atrociousness, prank games and porn-watching TV schedules (bet you, i had a good laugh), is one caring and thoughtful friend. Ridge's girlfriend Maggie (so yea this explains Ridge and Syd's inside battles), is indeed lovely. She's funny and understanding I'm afraid, I liked her character more than Sydney.
Music plays a crucial role since it is what drew Ridge and Sydney together. All the songs were beautiful and they make the characters and the story itself seem so real, palpable and existing. You ought to check them out for a complete feel. To listen to the songs, click HERE. The songs, as a matter of fact were from a real artist and musician, Griffin Peterson.
Ironically, despite the engaging narration and everything else, there's one thing this book failed to do (and which is whyy it falls short to my expectation.): to elicit actual and  overpowering emotions from me. I know this is supposed to be heart-crushing since it involves betrayal, broken hearts and broken trust between three good people but I wasn't moved. My heart wasn't shattered at all even if all three were already having their hearts and souls broken into pieces right before my eyes. Their ought-to-be-kilig moments weren't that nakakakilig. Concomitantly, the love scenes even, weren't that great. I had this feeling that something's missing in this book and that I reckon, is its inability to let me feel the sentiments that I was supposed to feel. If I were to rate this in a scale of 5 stars, I'd probably give it a 3.5.

Favorite Maybe Someday Quote:
""People don't get to choose who they fell in love with. They only get to choose who they stay in love with."

SaturdayFoodTwipppin#5: Ristorante Bigoli!

If you're looking for an eating house with good and generous belly-filling Italian food on a much cheaper price then Ristorante Bigoli is the place for you!

cute little bridge at the diner's second floor
I didnt go out today with the plan of eating my heart out after mass tonight because I'm trying to budget and distribute my allowance for the whole stretch of April. T'was fortunate Kuya Kevin knows this Italian fast food restaurant that offers wallet-friendly meals. I was surprised to see pastas priced for as low as 110 pesos! Like really? I decided to give it a go.
As we advanced towards the entrance, I was like holy mother of lord cocoa puffs! Welcoming us were automatic sliding doors opening up to this grand hotel-like miniature lobby. At the far end of the lobby was an inviting counter occupied by warm and amiable staff. It was radiant inside. The floor was polished, refined and classy. Their high ceiling was incredible, accentuated by a huge, elegant chandelier. To the left of the lobby was a quite grand staircase leading to the second floor. They also have this separate counter for gelatto. Sadly, I wasnt able to buy one (as much as I was slobbering by the sole sight of it.). The place was large and divided into four dining sections: al fresco area, first floor dining area, second floor dining area and special rooms on the 2nd floor for occasions, events or gatherings.

You have to order food from the counter and just like in your usual fast food, you may be given a number for meals that require more time to prepare. People, this is the only place I know of yet, to be serving
unlimited, self-service drinks. You have all the juices and softdrinks for this particular unlimited service. Cool beansss. And wait there's more!! Their bread sticks are unlimited as well and these alone are gratifying already! How generous of them, isnt it?
Fettuccine Alfredo solo, 110 pesos
Baked Spaghetti, 150 pesos

I gladly say that I left the place with a happy tummy, a happy heart and a happy pocket. Their meals come in uncommonly generous serving size. Albeit the general taste wasn't really sensational, it wasn't bad at all. I couldn't  frankly believe I gorged myself having just a little more than a  hundred bucks on hand. Kudos to this place! I can hardly wait to dab on more of their foods next time!
Another food tripping post brought to you by Kuya Kevin and my duck face self. HAH!

Top 7 - Girl Crushes

It's technically Saturday so I'm a little late for this soon-to-be-regular top 7 Friday post but whatever. I slept again for 8 straight hours which is nuts. My first ever top 7 list will be a line up of the most beautiful and inspiring women I look up to. Coming up with this list is easy peasy but ranking them in order of who appeals the most to me is rather nigh impossible.  This is completely randomized and is not in any particular order. So getta loada this and see the girls behind all my insecurities. hahaha. kidding.

1. Kristin Kreuk

Kristin Kreuk is a chronic crush of mine. I have been worshiping this goddess for God knows how long. I first laid eyes on her on Small Ville as Lana Lang, Clark's first love. I reckon being taken aback everytime her face flashes onscreen. She's so cute and pretty with those tantalizing green eyes (she has the most beautiful eyes ever I swear), straight brown hair and slightly crooked teeth. Somehow Kristin Kreuk's snaggletooth makes her even more exemplary. I haven't the faintest idea how such flaw adds so much edge,  and power to this endearingly attractive creature. I share the same dilemma (though hers doesn't appear to be one), mine only looks noticeably nasty hahaha. And when I first heard her voice, I was like 'ow.' She seems to be a petite woman to me, I never imagined her pulling off a deep voice haha. How cool is that?

 2. Anna Sophia Rob

Several years ago, I found her features too strong for a girl and just about then I was utterly convinced she's gonna grow up a raving beauty with a face that would stop a clock. The next time I saw her in a movie called Bridge to Terabithia, she was already a teenager and indeed she turned out to be one captivating young lady. Now, looking so fab and fashionable and gorgeous in her TV series, The Carrie Diaries, I lionize her even more. I sometimes wonder why I wasn't born to be Anna Sophia Rob lol. Aside from the undoubtedly charismatic looks, she also appealed to me in terms of her acting performances. She is a clear-cut good actress which is evident from the very first movies she has done in the early years of her life. She's so natural it's without surprise, she's enjoying all the spotlights now.

3. Rachel McAdams

My best-loved hollywood actress of all time. Rachel McAdams didnt strike me as stunningly pretty the first time I saw her on The Notebook. But as time flies by, and a good number of her movies has already piled up in the list of my favorites, she does not only appear pretty to me but rather, a dazzling, splendid statusque as a result of her unbelievable performances. I believe she is one of the great actors of her generation. She made me cry, laugh and hopeless romantic in a number of films. Many of the daunting romantic movies that moved me were starring her as the lead female character. Even in Mean Girls, she caught my attention more than Lindsay Lohan did. Rachel McAdams as some sort of a selfish bitch is cute hahaha. She's a darling!

 4. Lee Min Jung
I'm not really a fan of Korean beauty since most of them look well-nigh identical already (though I adore their porcelain skin). And besides, no one can really be sure who had/ hadn't undergone plastic surgeries. An exception is Lee Min Jung. Her face stands out and you can recognize her even whilst in a crowd of Korean gals. She's now 30 years old and still looking friggin young and amazing. By the looks of her, one would assume she's only in her 20's. And mind you people, she's a natural beauty. :))

 5. Say Tioco Artillero
Say is a popular Filipino Youtuber. Yeap she's no overwhelmingly beautiful. Nevertheless, I love her because she's inspiring. She knows what she wants in life and she works hard to achieve her dreams. She's very organized, it seems like she had planned on how she's gonna live her life for years. She's adventurous and is not afraid to take risks. She's a lover of change because as the saying goes, it is the only thing inevitable in life. She likes working her ass off and doing something fruitful and productive. She's very independent and at such a young age, she has traveled to places already, earned money, bought her own car and other stuff. She's well-bred and has a strong and tough personality. She's not fazed by all the people trying to put her down. Her high spirits are indestructible.

Im an avid reader and viewer of her blog and youtube channel. Say actually inspired me to create this blog and *fingers crossed* a vlog channel in the future. Check out her websites!

6. Zoe Elizabeth Sugg
Zoe Elizabeth Sugg, best known as Zoella by her fans and Youtube viewers is a famed English blogger and youtuber. She's visibly charming and beautiful. She's a beauty addict, a lover of classy and elegant fashion and has a penchant for make-up and clothes and hair styles! So what do you expect, countless girls across the globe are hooked to her websites. I adore how she seems to be the most perfect girl to wear a huge, messy hair. Her entirety shouts chic, style, sophistication and refinement.

 7. Kathryn Bernardo

Last but definitely not the least, Kathryn Bernardo! It's pretty damn obvious all Filipino girls out there are jelly of her `ughh` so friggin impeccable face (if you're not then girl I doubt your sanity)! Like really, how come every part of this girl's visage is perfect? I annoyingly catch myself endless times staring at her picture for hours. And, and, and matching this stunning face is a body so skinny, every wardrobe looks good on her. It's so unfair!
Why is it that she beams an all-teeth-flashing-smile looking so dazzling and jaw-dropping and yet even more lovely with a tight-lipped smile. And oh, I almost forgot, she has all these pictures of stolen, wide open-mouthed guffaws still looking adorable. Like hey, I can only do a single decent type of smile. I tried smiling with my lips closed, I looked like a doofus. With my mouth wide open.. erm nevermind. How I'd love to trade souls with her! tee-hee
